The Dambulla Cave Temple
Dambulla is famous for the Dmbulla Cave Temple. It is also a prominent temple in the country, and you have to climb up to get there. It is recommended to go up to the Dambulla Cave Temple and return via the King's Way to the Golden Temple. The trek up includes stony steps with a stunning view of the mountains. If you would also like to book accommodation that ofers similar sweeping views of the surrounding, then you can check out Dambulla hotels the likes of Amaya Lake.
When you reach the summit, just before entering the temple complex, take a little time to admire the view and observe the monkeys at play. Be prepared for their bravery! They aren't scared to come close and claim whatever they may think as food! The Dambulla Cave Temple has been built into the cave and has multiple beautifully painted chambers. You must visit the very first one, the one holding the reclining Buddha. You can proceed along King's Way rather than going back. The descending slopes are flanked with lovely trees as well as golden lamps, and teeming with mischievous monkeys, making for an enjoyable walk. This is among the few spots in the country where you will see authentic souvenirs being offered. The Golden Temple has a lot to show for itself too. A queue of monks going towards the temple along the many colourful faux rocks, plants, and wildlife does create quite an image!
Sigiriya
Sigiriya is much than just a fabled Lion Rock. It is a complex of Sigiriya's former capital and fortification. And it's significantly better kept than Machu Picchu and the world-famous Angkor Wat. With your ticket, you may acquire a map and explore the Ancient city complex on your own. Tour operators are also available for additional in-depth knowledge. Sigiriya Rock, commonly known as Lion Rock, is reached via gardens, historic auditoriums, and rugged archways. This was King Kasyapa's palace until he died when it became a Buddhist monastery. The rock is huge and it is a one-way walk, so be patient if it's crowded. Stunning panoramic views of the cliff await you along the trip. After all, you're ascending six hundred feet; what more can you expect? The lion's paw entry hall is another magnificent site that ought to be captured! The ruins of the palace complex may be found at the top of Lion Rock, accessible through robust metal steps carved into the rock. It's a big region, so you will probably spend a lot of time looking around it. In Sigiriya, you'll find souvenir booths selling Sri Lankan masks and wooden figures, as well as the usual keychains. You can buy some of those if any catches your eyes!
Exploring the countryside
Another relaxing way to spend your afternoon? Well, nothing beats renting a few bicycles and going with your friends or family to explore the countryside. This can be a solo excursion too! It's all up to you!
Minneriya National Park
You can check out the Minneriya National Park to have an unforgettable elephants safari experience! Wouldn’t that be a once in a lifetime experience you would love to cherish? The wildlife enthusiasts out there will have the time of their lives!
