1. Dune bashing
If you can do only one thing here, make sure it's dune bashing. Dune bashing is an outstanding feature of the Middle East. The sand dunes here are steep, and they are high enough to make it a thrilling experience. The best hotels in Doha arrange desert tours for their guests, so all you have to do is speak to your hotel. You can spend a Bedouin-style night in a tent enjoying delicious Arabic food and drinks.
2. Shopping at Souk Waqif
The souk is another traditional feature in Oman. The Souk Waqif is a reminder of Oman's old way of living. The market has been renovated several times to give it the best traditional look. The alleyways are lined with stalls selling a variety of things from spices and incense to clothes; you can also purchase arts and crafts here. While at the souk, make time to enjoy a delicious Arabic meal. The souk is located within close proximity to Al Najada Doha Hotel by Tivoli.
3. Stroll along the Doha Corniche
The Doha Corniche provides locals and tourists with the opportunity to relax in the evening and enjoy a delicious meal. The promenade here stretches from the Persian Gulf to the Museum of Islamic Art. The fitness machines installed are for public use. For uninterrupted views of the Doha skyline, you should hop on a traditional boat.
4. Visit the Museum of Islamic Art
Located on the tip of the corniche, the Museum of Islamic Art is a proud achievement of Qatar. It was designed by I.M Pei, and the design reflects the glory of Islamic art and architecture. The museum stands alone at the site, with no other structures obstructing its view. Inside the museum is a vast collection of artworks brought in from other countries. The collection includes jewellery, calligraphy, and textiles; some of these exhibits go back to the 7th century. Inside the museum is a restaurant run by Alain Ducasse, the famous French-born chef.
5. See the Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani Museum
The museum is found west of Doha at a 23-kilometre distance. The Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani Museum displays the collection of a private individual, Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani, a relative of the Emir. It is said that the Sheikh has been a collector of artefacts since he was ten years old. The vast collection of the museum includes over 15,000 exhibits. From ancient books and vintage cars to old cigarette cases, the museum has an extensive range of items.
6. Al Zubarah Fort and abandoned village
Al Zubarah Fort is the first UNESCO recognised site in Qatar. The fort is the representation of Qatar's interesting history and culture. Numerous archaeological works surround the fort, and they go back to the 1700s, although the fort was built in 1938. The fort overlooks a pearl fishing village, which was visited by traders 200 years ago. Now the village is abandoned, but it is a fascinating site to visit.
