How to get the best out of your trip to Pattaya

Home to some of the finest beaches and seaside landscapes in the region, Pattaya is also an adventure traveller's dream come true. 1. Timing is everything

Those who are heading to Pattaya for the first time should ideally plan their holiday to coincide with the best possible weather conditions in this part of the country. Nothing can put a damper on a beach holiday quite like inclement weather conditions and monsoon rains that can render outdoor activities unavailable. All visitors should attempt to visit Pattaya in the months between November and February although the official Thai tourist season falls between November and April. The months from November to February are perfect in terms of climate and allow tourists to engage in the gamut of exciting activities available in the area.

2. Explore the Nong Nooch Tropical Garden

Occupying pride of place in Na Jomtien, the Nong Nooch Tropical Botanical Garden is no ordinary horticultural space in Pattaya. Spread out over an impressive 2.4 square kilometres, the venue is one of the finest landscaped gardens in the country if not in Asia at large. Having garnered countless international awards for its design and maintenance, key elements of the Nong Nooch Tropical Garden include its French-style enclosure which mimics a 17th-century garden. The topiary showcases, cacti hub and the garden's own recreation of iconic UK landmark Stonehenge are other highlights inside this expansive garden where bonsais and more than 670 species of orchids are also on display. The garden also regularly hosts Thai boxing, dancing and drumming recitals to the delight of tourists.

3. Walk the Walk

Pattaya's Walking Street is unlike other areas not only in Thailand but in Asian cities around the region the 500m stretch found down Beach Road is lined with so many bars, restaurants and clubs that one could scarcely believe it. The best time to explore this part of Pattaya is after dark when the street is closed off to vehicle traffic at 6 pm. Buildings on either side of the road offer travellers a recreational hub in which to wine and dine and dance the night away in. A popular haunt among party animals and young tourists, this area is also home to some of the best street food and street performers in Pattaya.

4. Pay Homage to the Big Buddha

Also known as Wat Phra Khao Yai, no trip to Pattaya would be complete without paying homage to this iconic temple perched atop a hill. Standing above the surrounding landscape at a height of 18m, the statue of Lord Buddha is visible for miles around thanks to its vaulted location atop a 100m high hill. The extensive temple compound is divided into two and offer spectacular views of Pattaya and the stunning beaches of Jomtien. Serving as a functioning Buddhist temple, pilgrims from across Thailand are known to frequent this revered spiritual epicentre in Pattaya where the smell of incense and the chiming of bells can be heard throughout the day.

5. Visit Coral Island

Also known as Koh Larn or Larn Island, this little piece of paradise located less than 8km away from Pattaya Beach is ideal for those who are looking for privacy and seclusion in a tropical wonderland. Home to uncongested and tranquil beaches, the island is easy to reach via boat transfer during the morning hours. Considered one of the best day trip options for those based at Avani Pattaya Resort or any other seaside Pattaya beach resort, visitors can hop back on a boat in the afternoon with ease.
