How to Discover Brisbane on a Holiday with Kids – A Kid-friendly City Indeed
Fondly known as the 'Sunshine State', Brisbane is sunny for almost 70% of the year. It's an ideal destination in Australia to visit with your kids, thanks to the plethora of outdoor activities that it has to offer. Read on to find out some of the best things to sightsee and experience when you have your kids in tow.
Did you know? Brisbane has several playgrounds that are great for aspiring parkour-ers and ninja warriors! So, if you have kids who love the outdoors and are bursting with energy, they are going to love spending time at these parks. From climbing walls and monkey bars to hanging planks, cargo nets, and various other ninja obstacles, these parks are filled with fun challenges for the kids to complete. Examples of such parks include Spring Mountain Park, Guyatt Park, Redcliffe Parkour Park, Aura Frog Park, and more. If you're staying with the family at one of the Brisbane hotels or serviced apartments such as Oaks Brisbane Woolloongabba Suites, Guyatt Park is just a short drive of 15 minutes or less away by taxi.
A Taste of Farm Life
If you have been living with your children in a city for most of your life, your visit to Brisbane is a great time to have them get a glimpse of life on a farm and see farm animals up close. Head over to the Capalaba Produce farm, which is conveniently located not too far from the city. The farm has a spot called Ted's Corner, which the kids are sure to love. Contained inside rustic pens are a range of farm animals such as goats, cows, and sheep. Other animals you can see at the farm include chicks, pigeons, turkeys, ducks, and guinea pigs. When your family needs a break, head over to the onsite café for some snacks and cold treats such as ice-cream as well as refreshing hot and cold beverages.
A Fun Day in the Water
Do your children love water? If so, they are in luck! Brisbane has a lot of water parks and aquatic centres that are sure to offer them a great day out. One is the Albany Creek Leisure Centre, which has a trio of pools, a giant slide, and a rapid river that features water jets. The best part? The pools can be used even when it is cold outside since they are heated. There's also the Chermside Aquatic Centre & Water Park. It features multiple waterslides as well as an outdoor pool that is heated and accessible all year round. If you have smaller kids, you'll be glad to know that there are also smaller-sized slides for them to enjoy. Another place to which you can take the kids is the Newmarket Olympic Swimming Pool. The pool here is also heated, and it is, as the name suggests, an Olympic-sized pool, so if you have any kids that are serious about their pool regimen, this is a great place to take them. They'll be able to keep up their routine while the other kids have fun on the five-metre-long twisting slide.
Skate Parks
Got an aspiring pro-skater in the family? They'll love Brisbane for the number of skating parks that it has. Some of the parks to which you could take them include the Capalaba Skate Park, Paddington Skate Park, and Albany Creek Skate Park. Capalaba Skate Park is one of the biggest in Brisbane and offers skating courses that are suitable for skaters of all skill levels. The park also has night lighting for skaters that prefer to skate after sundown.
