How to Spend 04 Days in Oman
A land steeped in history and blessed with breathtaking natural beauty, the Sultanate of Oman has much to offer intrepid travellers visiting this part of the Arabian Peninsula. Be it spectacular mosques, ancient forts, bustling markets or awe-inspiring mountains, there is something new to discover on each visit. If you are planning a holiday of about four nights then here is one option of how you can spend your days, experiencing some of the best things to do in Oman.

A great place to begin your tour would be the capital, Muscat. Attractions to visit here include the magnificent Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque; the largest mosque in the country, it combines Omani and Middle Eastern architectural styles and is influenced by Islamic design too. It can hold up to 20,000 worshippers and features a stunning chandelier with thousands of Swarovski crystals and an amazing handmade Persian carpet.
For some shopping, you can visit the Mutrah Souq, a lively market place which is one of the oldest of its kind in the Arab world. Amidst the covered alleys, you will find stalls offering all manner of goods such as frankincense, spices, headscarves, Omani antiques, craftwork, Bedouin jewellery and gold accessories. If you are looking to spend some time at the seaside, then head to Qurum Beach; located beside the Qurum Nature Reserve, this idyllic stretch of shore is the perfect place to unwind for the whole family.
Day 02: Journey to Nizwa
On day two, you can plan a trip to Nizwa, around 157 km from Muscat; this city in the Ad Dakhiliyah region was the country's old capital and is an ideal destination to see some of the historical attractions in Oman. Amongst such sites is the well-known Nizwa Fort which dates back to the 17th century. Constructed as a point of defence for the city, it features a round tower that is around 40 metres in height and provides some exceptional views at the top including of the Hajar Mountains.
You can also head to the Nizwa Souq which is quite old and worth experiencing too. Apart from offering fish, meat and fresh produce, it has a section for handicrafts, ideal for souvenirs. Depending on how much time you have, you can plan visits to sites like Jabreen Castle reputed for its battlements as well Falaj Daris and the ruins of Bahla Fort, both of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Once done enjoying the many things to do in Nizwa, you can make your way to Al Jabal Al Akhdar, around 80 km away.
Day 03 & 04: Explore Jabal Akhdar
Known as the "Green Mountain", Jabal Akhdar (or Al Jabal Al Akhdar) offers thrilling adventures, fun family activities and romantic escapes. With so much to see and do, consider spending at least two days here; accommodation can be found on the mountain itself with properties like Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort providing a variety of activities and excursions too.
Adventure sports enthusiasts can go rock climbing with certified instructors as well as mountain biking be it by themselves or with a guide. Some properties will additionally offer options like archery, cooking classes where you can learn to make Omani dishes and the use of a powerful telescope for stargazing amidst the clear night air.
The mountains are ideal for those who love hiking as well; with the help of a guide, you will come across enchanting waterfalls where you can swim and have a picnic and wander along age-old trails to remote villages. From March to the middle of May, you can see Damask roses in bloom and even visit a distillery to see how fragrant rose water is made. Additionally, you can plan an excursion to the peak of Jabal Shams, the Hajar Range's highest mountain, with its unforgettable panoramas.
