How to pack for your vacation in Adelaide
If you are planning a holiday to the South Australian capital of Adelaide, you have much to look forward to. But before you begin going through all the things you can see and do while here, make sure to spend time on deciding what to pack as well! Having the right clothes and items are just as important and will help make your getaway that much more enjoyable. Here are some packing insights to keep in mind.
Consider the Seasons
Before getting into what to pack for your trip, you should remember that Adelaide has four distinct seasons; the clothing you should bring will thus largely depend on when you plan to visit since the city experiences both hot summers to coldish winters.
Summer is generally from December to February with temperatures ranging from 16.7 - 28.6°C; the humidity is relatively low and there will be little rainfall. From March to May is autumn and the temperatures are between 12.7 - 22.7°C which makes it quite pleasant. The cold spells of winter arrive in June and last till August with 8 - 16°C being the average temperature range, while the wettest month is usually June. Temperatures begin to pick up in spring and can be around 11.8 - 22°C, though do keep in mind evenings can be quite cool.
Pack the Right Clothes
Once you know the season you will be travelling in, you can start planning what clothes to pack. In general, smart casual attire is a safe bet, though you can bring dressier or formal clothing too for a night out or fine dining. Do keep in mind that some venues like clubs and high-end restaurants can have a strict dress code so some formal footwear is also worth packing. Of course, if you will be heading to Adelaide Fringe Festival events you can pack your favourite party outfit too!
If travelling during the summer, shorts are always good to have along with light t-shirts, shirts or tops; because of the heat, you will need at least one per day. Long pants or skirts are good to have for evening wear. In Adelaide, hotels in and around the city centre will offer access to many of the main attractions many of which can be reached by foot; with that in mind, pack a comfy pair of shoes, sneakers or sandals.
For those considering a winter holiday, remember to have layers so you can put on or take off accordingly as the day goes by and the temperatures change. Long sleeve t-shirts, shirts or tops are good to have along with a jumper that is not too heavy. Pants or jeans are also worth packing as well as a rainproof jacket and / or a warm jacket if visiting places like a local wine region. Of course, if you are staying at properties like Avani Adelaide Residences which offer living spaces with full laundry facilities, then life becomes that much easier and you can reduce packing clothing items.
Bring Swimwear and Sun Protection
For some summer fun, nothing beats heading to the coast and enjoying time in the sun, sand and surf at places like nearby Glenelg Beach. With that in mind, pack swimwear as well as adequate sun protection. Effective sunscreen is quintessential to have not only at the beach but when enjoying outdoor things to do in Adelaide in general. Having a good pair of sunglasses and a wide-brimmed sunhat or cap will be useful as well.
Have Adapters and Chargers
Keep in mind that the standard voltage in Australia is 220V / 50Hz AC; ideally, bring a universal adaptor which has USB support as well so you can charge your electronic devices. With all the Instagramming and selfie-taking you are bound to do, make sure you have a portable charger with you as well!
Consider a Waterproof Phone or Camera Case
Technically, this is not an essential item to pack but then again, you can look to get some great shots near or in the water without fearing for your phone's or camera's safety! Be it at the beach, when kayaking or even while engaged in activities like swimming with dolphins, there could be times this item comes in handy.
